August 31, 2018
Dear members of the AUB community,
I am pleased to announce, after a rigorous international search, the appointment of Dr. Malek Tabbal as Director of AUB’s Leadership Equity And Diversity (LEAD) initiative, effective September 1, 2018.
Dr. Tabbal has a very successful and wealthy experience in supervising scholarship programs, particularly the USAID University Scholarship Program (USP) and the Abdulla al Ghurair Foundation for Education (AGFE) STEM scholarship program which he currently directs.
Reporting to the Office of the Provost, and in coordination with the directors of the various scholarship programs at AUB and the Center for Civic Engagement and Community Services (CCECS), Prof. Tabbal, will be responsible for the management and expansion of LEAD as well as the enhancement of its impact locally, regionally and internationally in a manner that supports its vision:
The LEAD initiative promotes diversity and aspires to offset inequities in access to transformative education through supporting the development of world class graduates who will become the next generation of leaders. As agents of change equipped with the necessary skills, LEAD graduates will positively impact their communities and instill humanistic values in their societies.
I am very confident that LEAD will grow and flourish under the leadership of Professor Tabbal and with the support of all academic and non-academic units at AUB. Please join me in thanking him for accepting to serve in this critical and strategically important capacity.
