The American University of Beirut (AUB) operates under a charter granted by the Education Department of the State of New York in 1863, which registers the University’s degree programs. AUB degrees are also recognized by the Lebanese government through the equivalence committees of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
Institutional AccreditationAUB is accredited as an institution by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, 3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104, (267) 284-5000. MSCHE accreditation is an expression of confidence in AUB's mission, goals, resources and performance based upon periodic internal and external assessment. The University was first accredited in June 2004, and this accreditation was reaffirmed in 2009 and 2014. The monitoring report was submitted on April 1, 2016, documenting the actions AUB took to address MSCHE recommendations. On June 23, 2016, MSCHE accepted the monitoring report and scheduled the next evaluation visit for 2018-19. AUB’s recent institutional accreditation status has been reaffirmed by MSCHE with the acceptance of the University’s Monitoring Report in 2016. The University’s next re-accreditation review occurs via self study in 2018-19.
AUB’s full and updated Statement of Accreditation Status is maintained on MSCHE’s website.
Accreditation of Programs and Schools Six of AUB’s faculties/schools have earned accreditation from relevant accrediting bodies. In many cases, AUB’s faculties/schools are the first or the only ones of their kind outside of the United States to have programs accredited by US agencies.
