The American University of Beirut –
Mediterraneo (AUB Mediterraneo),
which opened in fall 2023 in a
temporary location in Pafos, welcomed
more than 150 undergraduate and
master’s students from 26 nationalities
to its new campus in fall 2024. The
campus, located in downtown Pafos
and just a short walk from the sea,
contains design elements inspired by
some of the iconic features of the Beirut
campus, including the Main Gate, the
Clock Tower, and the Green Oval.
The establishment of twin campuses
outside Lebanon is part of the Global
AUB vision, which the Board of
Trustees adopted in 2020, to ensure
AUB’s continued success, relevance,
and sustainability for generations to
come. In recent months, the already
close ties between the campuses in
Beirut and Pafos have become even
stronger as conferences that were
originally scheduled to take place in
Beirut have been moved to Pafos and
a few visiting and transfer students
from Beirut were welcomed this fall,
with more expected in the spring. “We
are one university. All of us at AUB
Mediterraneo are committed to doing
everything we can to help students
in Beirut during these terrible times,”
said AUB Mediterraneo Rector Wassim
El Hajj.
