Accurate predictions of the oceanic circulation are critical for many economic sectors, including various transport phenomena, marine ecosystem and fisheries, energy harvesting, as well as underwater mining.
The lecture was held on April 17, 2014 and focused on aspects of ocean predictions that are especially relevant to optimizing oil and gas mining operations as well as minimizing the associated hazards. Additionally, the lecture addressed the challenges and opportunities related to ocean modeling systems, weather forecasting, the role of ocean observations and data assimilation.
