Dr. Nesreen Ghaddar represents AUB and the Masri Institute at the MERID Regional Event in Beirut

Dr. Nesreen Ghaddar director of the Munib and Angela Masri Institute of Energy and Natural Resources and professor of mechanical engineering at the American Univeristy of Beirut represented both the univerity and the institute at the regional Middle East Research and Innovation Dialogue (MERID) for enhancing framework conditions for cooperation between the European Union and the Middle East. 

The event focused on the necessity of addressing the most pressing societal challenges that the Middle East region is currently suffering of, especially, in the field of energy. 

The event also hosted several Iranian, Iraqi, Lebanese, and Syrian experts from both the acamdemic and the policy making sectors. 

Attendees Included: 

  • Mouin Hamze, Secretary General of the National Center for Scientific Research of Lebanon
  • Abdelhamid El-Zoheiry, President of the Euro-Mediterranean University
  • Maria Cristina Russo, Directorate for International Cooperation, DG Research and Innovation, European Commission
  • Christina Lassen, Ambassador, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Lebanon (TBC)
  • Alessandro Ovi, Vice President of the Foundation for World Wide Cooperation
  • Abdelhamid El-Zoheiry, President of the Euro-Mediterranean University
  • George Bonas, Managing Director, CeRISS​
