Mr. Munib R. Masri participated in the founding ceremony of the “Silk Road International Chamber of Commerce”, held in Hong Kong on 9 – 10 December 2015.

Mr. Masri was elected as vice chairman of the “Silk Road International Chamber of Commerce”. When Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Central Asia and Southeast Asia in September and October 2013, he presented the Belt and Road initiative, namely the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. The initiative shall include more than 65 countries along the ancient trading route, encompassing a total population of 4 billion persons and at a cost of US$5 trillion dollars.

This large group of countries has expressed its interest to participate in the Chinese President’s initiative to revive the old Silk Road; these countries are looking forward to achieving global development for all countries of the world as well as to promote the development of trade and economic relations between Asia and Europe and Africa.

As such, the “Silk Road International Chamber of Commerce (SRICC)” was born as a non-governmental organization aiming to promote the renaissance of the Silk Road. SRICC shall enable businesses to participate in the investment and trade opportunities across the areas of infrastructure, industrial investment, human resources development, economic cooperation and cultural exchanges, communications and the protection of the environment.
