Mr. Munib R. Masri participated in the founding ceremony of the “Silk Road
International Chamber of Commerce”, held in Hong Kong on 9 – 10 December 2015.
The ceremony was attended by more than 300 people from international chambers
of commerce, the World Chambers Federation, the Silk Road Fund, the Asian
Infrastructure Investment Bank, chambers of the Silk Road countries and prominent
speakers from the fields of international trade, finance, and culture.
Mr. Masri was
elected as vice chairman of the “Silk Road International Chamber of Commerce”.
When Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Central Asia and Southeast Asia in
September and October 2013, he presented the Belt and Road initiative, namely the
Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.
The initiative shall include more than 65 countries along the ancient trading route,
encompassing a total population of 4 billion persons and at a cost of US$5 trillion
dollars.
This large group of countries has expressed its interest to participate in the
Chinese President’s initiative to revive the old Silk Road; these countries are looking
forward to achieving global development for all countries of the world as well as to
promote the development of trade and economic relations between Asia and Europe
and Africa.
As such, the “Silk Road International Chamber of Commerce (SRICC)” was born as
a non-governmental organization aiming to promote the renaissance of the Silk
Road. SRICC shall enable businesses to participate in the investment and trade
opportunities across the areas of infrastructure, industrial investment, human
resources development, economic cooperation and cultural exchanges,
communications and the protection of the environment.
