MSFEA engineers are developing innovative materials, cutting-edge designs, new sensor technologies, and advanced numerical models that promote “smart" Structural Health Monitoring of mechanical and civil infrastructure. The overarching goal is to produce more resilient, efficient infrastructure in the face of limited funds for replacement and increased exposure to natural and human caused hazards such as earthquakes, fires, changing climate, or war. MSFEA faculty and engineers address these contemporary challenges sustainability and with cutting-edge construction technologies and geo-materials.
