2018 has been a watershed year for the Debs Center. We launched the New York - Beirut Briefings, a series of video-linked discussions between students and faculty in New York and Beirut showcasing on-the-ground research from the heart of the Middle East.
Students and faculty came from Columbia, NYU, Smith College, CUNY, and other instutitions to discuss the Arab world's food crises, the struggle to educate and employ refugees, covering the Middle East as a foreign correspondent, and the challenges of participating in politics as a woman in the Arab world.
We also had the great fortune of welcoming to the office one of the 20th century's preeminent scientists, Freeman Dyson, who gave a mind-bending talk on biological and cultural evolution.
And of course, we connected with our alumni across North America to discuss impactful giving and to celebrate their accomplishments.
