  Founded in 1866, the American University of Beirut is a teaching-centered research university based on the American liberal arts model of higher education. AUB has over 8,000 students and 800 faculty members.   AUB is accredited in the US by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and includes six faculties: Arts and Sciences, Medicine, Engineering and Architecture, Agricultural and Food Sciences, Health Sciences, and Business. AUB offers more than 130 programs leading to bachelor's, master's, MD, and PhD degrees. The main language of instruction is English.

The Competition

On February 7, 2012, 62 teams (2 participants per team) competed using Clickers that are programmed to take only one response. The competition was conducted in a similar mode to the show “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” but with all the contestants competing simultaneously. The contestants came from seven universities across Lebanon (American University of Beirut, Lebanese American University, Lebanese University, University De Saint Joseph, Beirut Arab University, Balamand University, Lebanese International University), and four universities from across the MENA region (Bilkent University (Turkey), Sultan Qaboos University (Saltanat Oman), American University of Sharjah (United Arab Emirates), and Razi University (Iran)).
