The First Undergraduate Organic Competition in Lebanon was organized at the American University of Beirut on Monday, February 7, 2011 as an activity celebrating IYC2011. The competition was open to ALL students in Lebanon who completed Organic I and Organic II courses. Teams of two students competed using Clickers with the "Fastest Responders" tool. Students were allowed to choose their partners. The competition was made of 18 multiple-choice questions with four-six possible choices. Prof. Kaafarani presented each question and allowed students some time to enter their answers. When all responses were collected, as indicated by the software on the slide as well, the statistics of students' answers were shown on the slide. Then, the instructor explained every question and analyzed the provided choices and students’ responses. A slide listing the top five “Fastest Responders” teams was then posted. The team with the correct answer in the fasted time earned 50 points; the second team got 40 points; the third team got 30 points; the fourth team got 20 points; the fifth team got 10 points. At the end of the session, the teams with the largest number of points were declared the winners of the First Undergraduate Organic Competition in Lebanon. Trophies and cash awards were given to the winners and IYC pins were given to the participants.
Forty two teams from the American University of Beirut, Lebanese University, Lebanese American University, University of Balamand, Beirut Arab University, and Hariri Canadian University participated in the competition.
Faculty and students attended the competition, which was followed by a reception.
