​​​OIP seeks a Full-time Research Assistant

The Research Assistant (RA) at OIP serves as a study abroad advisor and social media manager. As a study abroad advisor, the RA advises and provides support services to all AUB students who wish to study abroad as part their AUB degree.  The RA’s additional responsibility is to manage all OIP’s social media information outlets. The RA reports to the Associate Director and serves as an integral member of the Office of International Programs.

General Duties​

  • ​​​Represent AUB professionally
  • Answer student general queries which come in on the aubabroad@aub.edu.lb e-mail account within no more than 48 business hours, & refer all non-student inquiries to the relevant OIP staff member or AUB resource person
  • Assist in planning and delivery of  pre-departure meetings, re-entry meetings, info sessions and the annual Study Abroad Fair for outgoing students
  • Gather & analyze data for OIP program evaluation projects
  • Other clerical and administrative functions as assigned


Study Abroad Support Duties

  • Serve as the first point of contact for students interested in studying abroad (in person, on the telephone and via e-mail.)
  • Provide regularly scheduled “Study Abroad 101” (group) advising to:
        *Explain the steps a student needs to take to study abroad, including credit transfer, scholarships and financial aid
        *Answer questions about approved partner universities, deadlines & where to find information on partner websites
        *Assist students in identifying and applying for study abroad and exchange programs

  • Maintain updated information on existing study abroad programs as well new study abroad opportunities for students
  • Maintain contact and connection with AUB students while abroad 
  • Contribute to the assessment of all study abroad programs in support of the Director and the Associate Director of the Office of International Programs
  • Update OIP’s Database with all outgoing student information
  • ​Create exchange applications using computer-aided applications (i.e LaserFiche) and assist in the entire exchange program process (application, interview and selection stages)


Communication and Social Media duties

  • ​Manage all of OIP’s social media outlets 
  • Generate news for OIP’s social media outlets and website
  • ​Assist in maintaining an updated website and social media information outlets
  • ​Collects study abroad testimonials from AUB students while abroad 
  • ​Produce videos to promote OIP and its overall activities 

Required qualifications:

 Bachelor’s degree 
 Must be able to work legally in Lebanon
 Native or near-native proficiency in English (both written and spoken)
 Strong empathetic and communication skills
 Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint  

Cross-cultural competence as evidenced by one or more of the following:

 Having grown up outside the Middle East/North Africa (MENA) region & studied at AUB &/or another university in the region for at least a term ,
 Having grown up in Lebanon or another MENA country & attended at least one semester of formal study outside the MENA region at the                        secondary school level or above,
 Having worked full-time for at least one year outside one’s home country,
 Having worked full-time for at least one year to provide advising, mentoring, teaching or customer services support to non-MENA persons                      while living in the MENA region.
•​ Ability to work independently, self-motivated and self-directed

Preference given to applicants who also have one or more of the following: 

 Competence in Arabic (written and spoken), 
 Social Science research experience or willingness to learn same
 Interest in issues of comparative higher education or student advising
 Prior experience working or interning for an agency which works in educational matters or for a higher education institution in any country
