Accounting night holds more than just a chance for students to learn more about their chosen field. The most recent event, held on April 4, hosted prominent practitioners from the fields of accounting, auditing, and consulting who shared valuable experiences and workplace tips with OSB students. However, the highlight of the evening was a chance to win a shadow day with advisory senior managers, audit directors, and audit senior managers from the Big 4 firms (PwC, Deloitte, KPMG, and EY). During their shadow day students were able to see inside the firm's offices, meet with key personnel, and experience the life of an accounting professional first hand.
Students expressed their gratitude for the event and prospects that came out of the evening. “It was a great opportunity to know more about what external auditing is on the ground, rather than just hearing about it. I got a chance to interact with actual external auditors and observe their work with their clients. Overall, it was fun and beneficial," commented Luna Fawaz.
Hussein El Annan remarked, “having the opportunity to shadow professionals in their field completely changed my perspective on corporate workplace which will definitely help me have a better understanding of what is to come in my career."
Louna Raad was enthusiastic about her shadow day. “I had the immense pleasure of shadowing a senior officer in one of the Big Four and the experience was quite unique. I went to the client's office, spent the day with the auditing team, and got to see what they do on day-to-day basis. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole day and believe I now have very valuable experience under my belt. I learnt more than I expected and I am very thankful for it, “ she noted.
"I really gained a further understanding of the auditing profession and what an auditor does," commented Gabriel Araj. “I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone who's interested in becoming an auditor."
“I really enjoyed my shadow day. They did their maximum to get us into their routine and it was a fruitful experience for me. If I had the opportunity, I would surely do this experience again," reflected Aya Alto.
“This shadow day was so helpful since it gave me an insight on what auditors actually do on a daily basis that I could have not learned in a classroom. This experience made me more excited to choose accounting as a concentration, but at the same time it made me aware of its downfalls and disadvantages," observed Yara Abou Haidar Elias.
“Before going to the shadow day, I had a plan to concentrate in accounting, but after the shadow day I became sure about this path and specifically to become an auditor," determined Lynn Abdo.
“As someone who is set on concentrating in accounting, the shadow day was a wonderful experience and it allowed to personally see a typical day for an auditor. After the shadow day I am now even more convinced that accounting is the right path for me," concluded Mohamad Ghandour.
