About RMCGI Rami F. Makhzoumi Corporate Governance Initiative

Mrs. Makhzoumi Forward

Corporate Governance has evolved significantly over the past century, particularly with the advent of progressive regulations and international standards. For businesses to survive and thrive in today’s environment, whether they operate in the private or public sectors, they need to have their own corporate governance systems that serve as guarantees for their survival and continuity.

Our dear son Rami Makhzoumi introduced our business to corporate governance to raise the standard and level of operations to be on par with public companies operating at the highest levels of transparency and accountability. He was also searching for the best family office practices to integrate into our business. Unfortunately, we lost him way too soon, before establishing the family office and before these efforts saw the light. But we did not stop there, we held his dream and kept the search and eventually formed our family office, and turned to AUB, OSB to help us raise awareness about this important topic, that was close to his heart. We also feel that this is an important area for Lebanon where we need to benchmark globally to best governance practices, whether in the context of companies, schools, universities, hospitals, and NGO's.

We feel assured that this initiative under the wise leadership of OSB will rise to the challenge and look forward to our continued collaboration and strong steadfast steps in this important space.

About the Initiative

The Initiative is the first of its kind to be carried out by an academic institution in the region. It was established in 2011 as part of Rami Makhzoumi’s vision to encourage the implementation of best practices. Rami’s parents wanted his legacy to continue through implementing his dream of institutionalizing companies to implement corporate governance best practices.

Since then, the initiative has offered different educational conferences, workshops and seminar series on the implementation of governance best practices in the region. It has given the opportunity to scholars and advisors in the field to present their latest findings on the topic. Moreover, it has collaborated with local and global organizations to help create awareness about the role of corporate governance in institutions. The initiative aims to be a regional player in shaping governance through education, collaboration and advocacy.
