Webcast Series: Corporate Governance & Sustainability, ESG unpacked

The Corporate Governance and Sustainability Talk podcast comes to you from the American University of Beirut - Rami F. Makhzoumi Corporate Governance Initiative at the Suliman S. Olayan School of Business where it unpacks the environmental, social and governance (ESG) narrative and discusses how businesses and society can come together, advancing responsible leadership across the Middle East and North Africa region for Governance Excellence and Corporate Sustainability. The series features candid conversations with economic, environmental and social leaders and faculty to unpack the broad nature of sustainability and ESG.

Episode 1: The growing relevance of ESG metrics and sustainability reporting for Accounting and Finance professionals

Faculty member at the Suliman S. Olayan School of Business (OSB) at the American University of Beirut and recently appointed as a member of the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA),  Rania Mardini weighs in with host Nada Naufal, Director of the American University of Beirut Rami F. Makhzoumi Corporate Governance Initiative on the correlation between ESG, integrated risk management and sustainability reporting.  They discuss the challenges and opportunities of the evolving and not fully measurable nature of ESG requirements and the mobilization of key ecosystem players for standardizing and producing ethical and quality sustainability reporting.  The talk also covers how a board with an ESG mindset can affect the financial performance and stability of a business and more.

Episode 2: Executive minutes on Environment, Social and Governance insights and Climate Action from the AGM at the World Economic Forum at Davos. 

Youmna Naufal, Director at Brunswick Group, a geopolitical advisor and media specialist and co-managing Brunswick Global’s relationship with the World Economic Forum, speaks with Nada Naufal, Director of the Suliman S. Olayan School of Business (OSB) Rami F. Makhzoumi Corporate Governance Initiative at the American University of Beirut where she weighs in on the takeaways and highlights from the World Economic Forum that took place in Davos earlier this year and the agenda preparation for the Conference of the Parties (COP 28) taking place in the UAE later this year.  

Episode 3: Moving Business and Society forward together. ​

Alain Daou, recently appointed as Dean of the School of Business at the American University of Beirut Mediterraneo, former Convener of the Management, Marketing & Entrepreneurship track at the Suliman S. Olayan School of Business (OSB) and Director of the Nature Conservation Center, speaks with Nada Naufal, Director of OSB’s Rami F. Makhzoumi Corporate Governance Initiative at the American University of Beirut. They discuss the challenges and opportunities small to medium enterprises are tackling today and how looking ahead to the WorldBank and other ecosystem players is a critical focus in moving business and society forward.  How are environmental and social challenges being met, how are generation Z and Alpha influencing the future of consumerism, and how engaging in workshops and collaborative conversations with ecosystem organizations are just some examples to help our society move forward and add value to businesses.
