What is a University Policy?

A university policy is a document that states a university-wide position on a particular issue and serves to promote (some aspect of) the mission of AUB, in order to enhance its operations and governance, and to communicate its expectations to its members.

A university policy (1) has broad application throughout the university; (2) it mandates specific actions, constraints, or procedures for compliance; and (3) requires approval by the president for issuance, major changes, or revocation.

If a policy does not fit those criteria, it is a departmental, office, or unit policy, and it is neither subject to the approval process outlined in the “Policy on Policies”, nor is it maintained on PolicyTech.
