  Founded in 1866, the American University of Beirut is a teaching-centered research university based on the American liberal arts model of higher education. AUB has over 8,000 students and 800 faculty members.   AUB is accredited in the US by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and includes six faculties: Arts and Sciences, Medicine, Engineering and Architecture, Agricultural and Food Sciences, Health Sciences, and Business. AUB offers more than 130 programs leading to bachelor's, master's, MD, and PhD degrees. The main language of instruction is English.

Since 2004, AUB has been continuously accredited as an institution by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), a voluntary, nongovernmental, peer-based membership association dedicated to promoting standards of excellence and improvement in higher education.

In 2016, in preparation for a decennial Middle States reaccreditation evaluation, the university initiated an extensive institutional self-study process. The resulting report offers a comprehensive analysis of the university’s progress and accomplishments over the last decade.

The MSCHE Evaluation Team visited AUB in March 3-6, 2019 to learn more about the university and address any questions that the team may have after reviewing the Self-Study Report.
