Voices through Art
an intergenerational fundraising event
The Voices through Art exhibition is a collaboration between AUB’s University for Seniors, HelpAge International, and AUBMC’s Gold Clinic. An intergenerational fundraising art event that hopes to raise funds to the Gold Clinic. The Gold Clinic is an award-winning student led initiative that provides free-of-charge healthcare services to underprivileged older adults in the community. However, due to the economic crisis the country is experiencing, they are being forced to amend their operations to fit their dwindling budget. Therefore, proceeds and donations will contribute to serving and supporting healthcare to older people in the community.
The exhibition also aims to raise the voices of older adults and strengthen bonds among different generations. Specifically, Voices through Art highlights intergenerational connection and bonding as both students and older adults have donated paintings or photographs to the event; with three paintings jointly worked on and shared between a student and senior. In addition, we have collected artworks that have diverse themes such as older people’s potential, ageism, the importance of older people’s voices, and intergenerational relationships which served to reinforce and advocate for older adults’ issues among different age groups.
The art exhibition will be held on Friday June 17 (5:00-7:00pm) and Saturday June 18 (10:00am-5:00pm) featuring more than 70 artworks donated by older adults and AUB students at the American University of Beirut, West Hall, Common Room.
