Study group in details
led by Dr. Najla Hamadeh, this study group ran for six weeks during our Spring 2012 term on Wednesdays from 4:15 till 5:45 PM in the Hariri School of Nursing building
Religion occupies a great deal of one’s life, especially in our part of the world…however looking into this matter from a philosophical point of view is a less common road…
Dr. Najla Hamadeh walked 28 seniors through this topic armed with her extensive philosophical background and her deep passion for religions.
From the Greek philosophers to Judaism, Christianity and Islam, and with St Thomas Aquinas, Ibn Rushd, Al Ghazali, Kierkegaard and so many others the group tackled the subjects of Faith, the impact of culture on religious doctrine and ritual, various notions of “God”, types of religion, forms of worship and reward and punishment.
When we asked the seniors what they liked the most in this study group, some of them answered:
“Dr. Najla Hamadeh knows and explains the material in a very explicit way. She is very thorough with the material, tries her best to explain and makes philosophy comprehendible to everybody.”
“The attempt to introduce us to the various schools and philosophers and their approach towards Religion”.
