This seminar was conducted at the Faculty of Health Sciences at AUB. The main presenter was Mr. Wardie Leppan, a senior program specialist at the International Development Research Center (IDRC-Canada). The seminar addressed how tobacco companies are now pushing the so-called economic benefits of tobacco production to stall the introduction of policies aimed at controlling demand, having lost the health arguments.
The seminar also exposed the myths regarding the benefits of tobacco farming and highlighted the social, environmental and health problems faced by smallholder tobacco farmers around the world.
