Tamara Al Khoury, a Psychology student and USP VIII Cycle 1 Scholar, interned with the child protection department at Terre des Hommes Italia (TDH) between July and October 2021, with the main goal of exploring how psychosocial support interventions are designed and implemented. TDH works in developing countries to protect children at risk of violence, abuse, and exploitation, as well as those that are affected by conflict, in child labor, or out of school.
Tamara handled a variety of tasks, from supporting and conducting base need assessment through field visits and phone calls, to delivering psychosocial first aid (PFA) within community outreach, to assisting in developing focused and community-based psychosocial support activities, all the way to participating in preparing the caregivers support program.
After spending a substantial period of time with TDH, Tamara expressed that this internship presented her with an opportunity to complement her academic studies, allowing her to bridge theory with practice.
