Mr. Sellars, a director of opera, theater, and film, is renowned worldwide for his groundbreaking and transformative interpretations of artistic masterpieces and for collaborative projects with an extraordinary range of creative artists. He has served as artistic director of the Los Angeles Festival, New Crowned Hope (Vienna 2006), the American National Theater at the Kennedy Center, and the Boston Shakespeare Company. He is a recipient of the MacArthur Prize Fellowship, the Polar Music Prize, and was awarded the Erasmus Prize for contributions to European culture. Recent projects include Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito at the Salzburg Festival and Dutch National Opera, the world premiere of the latest John Adams/Sellars collaboration, Girls of the Golden West, at the San Francisco Opera, and a new production of Doctor Atomic at the Santa Fe Opera. A distinguished professor in UCLA’s Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance, he received a Doctorate of Humane Letters from AUB in 2015.
