Early Career Fellows Program 2022

Full-time Research Assistant​

A consultancy position for a Beirut-based full-time Research Assistant (40 hours per week) is available to begin working immediately on the Afro-Asian anti-colonial movement of the early decolonization era and its relationship to Lebanon from February-December 2021. Renumeration will be on a quarterly deliverables basis and in fresh dollars.

The Research Assistant will conduct archival and field research, interviews, and deliver an English language report on the research conducted. The researcher will join the Afro-Asian Futures Past Research Program as an affiliated researcher, and wo​rk with Principle Investigator Prof. Anaheed Al-Hardan. Minimum qualification sought for this position is an MA in the social sciences or humanities. Candidates are expected to have excellent report and literature-review writing skills, ability to critically analyze primary source documents, and English and Arabic language proficiency. Prior experience in, and knowledge of, archival research, the early decolonization era and a PhD will be considered an advantage. School on Theorizing from the Global South

The Arab Council for the Social Sciences, the Afro-Asian Futures Past Research Program, and the Centre for Indian Studies in Africa (University of the Witwatersrand) are jointly organizing a five-day School entitled “Theorizing from the Global South: African and Arab Imaginaries and Circulations” to be held on October 21-25, 2019 at the American University of Beirut. The school is aimed at African and Arab researchers interested in the idea of the Global South as well as the affinities between African and Arab imaginaries. This is a fully-funded competitive opportunity that will cover all of the participants’ travel, accommodation and meal expenses. Research Program Coordinator Position in Beirut​​​

​Afro-Asian Futures Past welcomes affiliation requests from international scholars and postgraduates students, and considers them on a rolling basis throughout the year. To apply, please email a cover letter that clearly outlines, links and justifies the proposed research project’s affiliation to the program during the proposed research stay at AUB, the length of the requested affiliation, a CV and a letter from the host institution with “affiliation request” in the subject line.​
