Lebanon has faced a truly unprecedented series of events since fall 2019: the COVID-19 pandemic; the massive explosion in the Beirut port on August 4, 2020; and the economic and financial collapse of the country. The situation has recently gotten much worse as people are unable to secure the fuel oil they urgently need. The impact on medical centers has been especially severe putting patient lives at risk.
The American University of Beirut (AUB) was established in 1866 and has served the people of Lebanon and the region for more than 155 years. Despite the challenges Lebanon and our university face today, our commitment to Lebanon and its people has never been stronger.
We are deeply grateful to the Lebanese Taverna for its support during this very difficult time and its initiative to assist our efforts to raise funds for the AUBMC Emergency Fuel Fund, so that we can pay for the fuel oil that is needed to keep ventilators and other lifesaving medical devices operational; and for the AUBMC Needy Patient Fund, which provides financial assistance to patients who would not otherwise be able to afford the medical care they need.
