On ACGME-I Accreditation
In accordance with its mission and creed, the American University of Beirut Faculty of Medicine and Medical Center is dedicated to pursuing the highest quality of patient care and graduate medical education. The AUB Faculty of Medicine and Medical Center and through the Offices of Associate Dean for Medical Education and Graduate Medical Education is committed to ensuring that all of its Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs meet or exceed the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-International (ACGME-I) requirements.
On Sponsoring Institution's Accreditation
The AUB FM-MC received initial ACGME-I institutional accreditation on July 2014 for two years consequently becoming the first medical center in Lebanon and the fourth in the world to receive Institutional Accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-International (ACGME-I). After an ACGME-I site visit in April 2016, the institutional initial accreditation was upgraded to a “Continuous One” effective Tuesday, July 23, 2016. AUB FM-MC maintained the "Continuous" institutional accreditation status after the ACGME-I site visits on April 18, 2019 and on April 2, 2024.
On Residency Programs' Accreditation
After obtaining initial Institutional Accreditation, the AUB FM-MC's GME residency programs started applying for ACGME-I accreditation that assess the residency programs' compliance with two sets of standards:
- International Foundational Requirements that relates to the structure of the program
- International Advanced Specialty Requirements that relates to the residency training itself
Currently, 19 residency programs have ACGME-I Accreditation.
On Fellowship Programs' Accreditation
After obtaining the core residency programs' accreditation, the AUB FM-MC's GME fellowship programs started applying for ACGME-I accreditation that assess the fellowship programs' compliance with two sets of standards:- International Subspecialty Foundational Requirements that relates to the structure of the program
- International Advanced Subspecialty Requirements that relates to the residency training itself
Currently, 2 fellowship programs have ACGME-I Accreditation.
