Unsafe food causes more than 200 diseases. Around 600 million cases of foodborne illnesses are reported every year worldwide. Out of these, at least 420,000 people die. Yearly losses in productivity and medical expenses equate to around $110 billion.
Access to safe foods is instrumental to sustaining life and promoting health, and with the globalization of food trade nowadays, food safety needs to be emphasized even more. Stakeholders along the food supply chain, whether a food manufacturer, supplier, or business owner, all have a role in maintaining food safety to protect consumers from foodborne illnesses and optimizing their business performance.
